Eighth grade students are independent thinkers who can apply prior knowledge to new situations but may need assistance through the use of hands-on materials, mathematical discourse, and technology. Students must have opportunities to explore and investigate mathematical concepts as well as instruction that includes a balance between skill development and mathematical understanding (See Handbook).
